Aglo Systems was pleased to work alongside Woods Bagot, Shape Projects and Apec Electrical to deliver the lighting design concept refinement, engineering, shop drawings, production and supply of three styles of custom lighting for the Melbourne Qantas Domestic Business Lounge and Qantas Club refurbishment. The fit-out design was inspired by one of Victoria’s greatest attractions; the Great Ocean Road and incorporated natural timber and earthy tones from greys to turquoise and featured modern finishes.
The Custom team at Aglo Systems engineered and manufactured three types of copper luminaires as part of the refurbishment. The first architectural feature for this project is the joinery light, which is located in the Business Lounge banquette seating area and incorporates a brushed metal shade, LED tape and acrylic diffuser on a stem. Eight of these custom features were created.
The second architectural light feature placed along the corridor of the lounge is a two-way wall light, which incorporates one up-light shade that matches the banquet seating version and one frosted glass sphere shade. A total of twenty of these were produced for the refurbishment and involved metal tube bending, welding and electro plating to complete the manufacturing process.
The third luminaire type for this project is a wall-mounted variation of the spun metal shade on a 1.2m arm featuring trendy vintage fridge lamps. Six of these bespoke luminaires were manufactured in total.
For their work in this 12 month-long project, SHAPE won the Master Builders Award – Excellence in Fitout 2019
