The Aglo Systems lighting design department worked with Mecca Maxima’s interior designers, Red Design Group to develop an intricate lighting design. The design brief required 90CRI fittings for excellent colour rendering of the multitude of make up colours on display, and a warm 3000K colour temperature.
The downlights for the make up artist application desks required a specific angle and distance range between the fitting and the customer to avoid glare. LED strip lighting was placed within the mirror cabinetry to provide front-on lighting and remove unflattering shadowing on the customer’s face.
LED strip lighting was also used throughout the store to provide contrast, accents, halo effects and mood lighting. It was placed underneath shelving, as cove lighting in ceiling recesses around the store perimeter and above the mirror false ceiling for up lighting.
Wide beam angles were used for the downlights illuminating the wall signage to provide even illumination and minimise scalloping. The downlights recessed into the ceiling mirrors were customised for Mecca with a silver trim to help them blend into the background.
