Aglo Systems assists Design Honours student

The Aglo Custom Manufacture department was approached by Michelle Miller, an Art & Design student completing her Honours year at the University of New South Wales to assist in the manufacture of her design piece.  Her outstanding work has been selected as one of twelve to be exhibited at the Australian Design Centre’s ‘Designing Bright Futures’ exhibition in Darlinghurst.

Aglo donated our time and arranged for generous supplier donations to keep costs to a minimum for Michelle. We would like to thank everyone involved. A special thank you to:
– Our local Dingley Men’s shed for donating their time to turn the timber and aluminium
– Elettra for donating a finished aluminium canopy

About the design piece:

Starlight Memorial: Rethinking the Urban Cemetery

‘Starlight Memorial’ is an architectural response to the lack of space in urban communities. The project proposes a new and unique commentary on how cemeteries as a traditional method of dealing with the dead such are no longer a viable option for a sustainable future. Taking inspiration from Kusama’s ‘Infinity Mirror Rooms’, it offers room for thousands of hanging motion sensor LED light urns, acting as a replacement for a connection to the physical body. Multi-levelled and partly submerged underground, the building integrates the use of public and private realms with biophilic methods offering different forms of comfort and emotional connection to the deceased.

HURRY: VEET rebates reduced from 1 Jan 2018

Proposed changes to the Victorian Energy Efficiency Target (VEET) scheme

Victorian Energy Upgrades have proposed a discount factor for the VEET scheme to come into place in a two-stage implementation from 1 Jan 2018. The discount factor will apply for commercial, building based lighting upgrades of T8 or T12 linear fluorescent lamps and high intensity discharge lamps (metal halide, mercury vapour and high pressure sodium lamps). The intended discount factor will be used when calculating the greenhouse gas reductions for Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificates (VEECs).

This means that the same lighting upgrade completed in 2018 will generate 10–30% fewer VEECs than if it was to be completed in 2017. Fewer VEECs means less discount we can apply to the cost of your lighting upgrade.

While the planned changes are currently in the consultation period, it is likely to proceed. The following table indicates the proposed roll out of the discount factor:

Type of incumbent lamp or upgrade lamp
Discount factor applicable from 1 January 2018–31 March 2018
Discount factor applicable from 1 April 2018 onwards
  T8 or T12 linear fluorescent

What this means to you?

If you have an upcoming job or outstanding quote with us, now is the time to proceed to be able to leverage the highest rebates currently available. Uncertainty about these changes is also affecting the market price of VEECs and the applicable discount we can provide to you.

Please contact us to discuss when your lighting upgrade can be scheduled in.

Dressing Room Lighting Design Tips

To reduce unflattering shadowing and help the customer feel confident in wearing the garment, it is important to illuminate the customer from the front, as well as from above.

The brightness of the front-on lighting must be stronger than from overhead to be able to ‘fill in’ the shadows caused from the overhead light.

If the lighting is only from above or if the above lighting is brighter than the front lighting, shadows will form underneath the customer’s horizontal features, ie, chin, nose, breasts, stomach.

Cutting Edge Advances in LED Technology

Introducing the latest generation of Citizen Brilliant Vivid LED range. It provides beautiful and enriched high colour quality light for colour sensitive applications such as high end retail stores.

Citizen Vivid LEDs were designed to make the hue, lightness and saturation of objects more faithful. They can represent a full range of fine, natural colour gradation in comparison with a standard LED. With the greater range of colours and contrasts, the texture and detail of a product is more apparent.

Aglo focus on quality LED products that will suit almost all applications, but for a premium store where colour is most important this special range of LED should be considered. The LEDs can be fitted into our extensive range of downlights, track spots and shop lights. Citizen Brilliant Vivid LED is available in 2700K – 5000K colour temperatures and several intensity options.

Contact Aglo Systems for a customised live demonstration to suit your particular illumination needs and lighting design.
