Residential Apartment Tower Lighting

Melbourne Grand, Victoria offers stunning city views and an outstanding living experience rising 58-storey residential apartment tower above Melbourne’s CBD. Designed by high-profile architects Guilford Bell + Graham Fisher, built by premier construction company Multiplex and developed by Central Equity, the luxury development offers 646 residential apartments in one-two- and three-bedroom configurations. Named HIA Victorian Apartment Complex of the Year 2020, Melbourne Grand features an array of outstanding facilities including an indoor pool, gym, sauna and yoga studio, residents lounge and BBQ terrace, 17-seat luxe theatre, coffee bar, banquet room and entire 10^th floor dedicated to resort-style facilities. The Specialist Projects team at Aglo Systems were pleased to work with ASI Electrics to manage and supply an extensive value-managed lighting package of premium products, ensuring the package met the function, output and aesthetic outlined within the client brief.

Melbourne Grand features a wide range of Mondolux and Aglo Projects products across all areas of the development including within residential apartments, corridor general lighting, communal kitchen and dining facilities, common amenities and areas, theatre, lift lobbies, Ground Floor, Mezzanine, and Level 10. Fittings include surface mounted and recessed made-to-measure pre-assembled LED extrusion kits based on site measurements, complete with pre-wired plug-and-play connections, fixed recessed downlights, fixed recessed wall washer downlights, adjustable recessed downlights and linear LED strips.

Each LED length for this project was custom-made to measure according to millimetre-specific take-off by the contractor. As all LED extrusion kits were pre-assembled, each length was individually labelled with the apartment type and length to ensure smooth cross-checking, inventory management, locating and installation onsite. Each delivery was also articulately managed to ensure progress dates were met onsite, as well as meeting deadlines and storage restrictions onsite. Interestingly, across the whole project approx. 1km of Impact 3535 Recessed, over 1.7km of Stealth 1707 and over 4.5km of Stealth 1715 extrusion was installed. Mondolux Stealth 1715 surface mounted extrusion in silver provides ambient indirect illumination in all residence kitchens and bathrooms, Level 10 communal kitchen and dining facilities. It was also installed as cove lighting within the theatre due to its slimline profile. Mondolux Stealth 1707 surface mounted extrusion in silver was mounted against marble feature panels to illuminate all apartment entries, creating the illusion of hidden lighting without any visible mounting. Mondolux Impact 3535 recessed extrusion in black installed in the corridors and common areas balances efficient output with a sleek, minimalist profile.

A range of Mondolux and Aglo Project Downlights were selected for multiple areas of the development including the new Mondolux Infinito Downlight series. Fittings from this series included Mondolux Infinito Bron Fixed Recessed Downlight with White Trim/Black Baffle, Mondolux Infinito Bron Fixed Recessed Downlight with White Trim/Chrome Baffle, Mondolux Infinito Bron Fixed Recessed Downlight with White Trim/White Baffle and Mondolux Infinito Bron Adjustable Recessed Downlight with White Trim/Chrome Baffle. The Mondolux Infinito Downlight series range was selected due to its elevated architectural value, with low glare and high efficacy. The broad range of models and accessories also provided an array of options to create the required ambience within the architectural development.

Downlight fittings were supplied in a combination of CRI80 and CRI80 and a colour temperature of 2700K; all linear was supplied in CRI90 and a colour temperature of 3000K.

The project spanned a 30-month duration where each section of the build required separate quoting, sampling, ordering, delivery, project management and installation support. The Aglo Specialist Projects team provided project management across all stages of the project, from initial quoting, sampling, delivery and practical onsite installation advice for the Base Build, Podium and Tower sections of the project. The project was an exercise in diligence by the contractor and in excellent communication, attention to detail and service from Aglo Specialist Projects team.
