In Australia, it is estimated that approximately 95 per cent of emergency and exit lighting batteries currently end up in landfill each year. Emergency lighting batteries are a priority for recycling because they are among the most hazardous of all batteries.
The objective of EXITCYCLE is to reduce the amount of cadmium and lead entering the environment from end-of-life emergency and exit lighting batteries by continuously increasing the recycling of these batteries.
We urge all commercial and government users, or facilitators of emergency and exit lighting to make a commitment towards recycling end-of-life emergency and exit lighting batteries.
