Holiday Inn Express Southbank features a wide range of Mondolux and Aglo Projects products, sourced especially for all areas of this project – common areas, lobby, gym, conference rooms, hotel rooms/apartments and outdoor façade. Fittings include recessed architectural downlights, Neonflex (blue) LED, Neonflex LED, Impact 5075 Suspended Extrusion, Stealth 1715 Extrusion, Linea 4.8W Strip and wall mounted lights. The photos shown are of the hotel lobby, great room and meeting room – Festival Theatre. Aglo Projects architectural downlights were selected to provide general lighting in these areas and to work with the rooms’ design aesthetic. The Mondolux Impact 5075 was selected as part of the lighting package due to its slimline profile and was used as a feature within the space.
The Aglo Specialist Projects team also worked with ASI’s onsite team to supply made-to-measure pre-assembled LED kits based on exact site measurements, complete with pre-wired plug-and-play connections to cut down installation time and cost.
Downlight fittings were supplied with CRI80 and a colour temperature of 2700K, whereas the linear fittings were supplied with CRI90 and a colour temperature of 2700K.
The project spanned an 18-month duration from original samples to the project handover.
News@CBR is a news and travel essentials concept exclusive to Canberra Airport. A stunning 284sqm flagship store which is located immediately after security, provides travellers with news, books, magazines, stationery, beverages, snacking, confectionary, technology, gifts, souvenirs, toys and travel essentials. Aglo Systems was pleased to work with AWPL, Trivision and Pennant & Triumph to provide Lighting Design, Aiming and Supply of the fit out.
As part of the design, our lighting designer recommended trialling a 3500K colour temperature as the store position had no daylight coming into the store. Usually a 3000K colour temperature is used, however without daylight coming into the store, our recommendation was that 3000K would be too warm and would not stand out in the area.
Other considerations as part of the Lighting Design was to ensure adequate store front illumination by carefully selecting lighting specifications and positioning. We also worked closely with the contractor to make some alterations as needed including aiming to ensure shelving was effectively highlighted.
The bulkhead feature lighting at the front of the store used double rows of Mondolux Linea Surface Mounted LED strip.
To highlight the perimeter shelves, Mondolux Linea Surface Mounted LED with Stealth 1707 extrusion profile was used. For general lighting and product illumination within the store, Messina Midi Spotlights and Power Track 3 Circuit in black were used.

Mondolux Benson fixed recessed downlight (IP40 and IP44 versions) in white were used within the apartments and for common areas to provide general lighting. The Mondolux Stealth 1707 Extrusion with Linea 4.8W Strip 3000K was selected as part of the lighting package due to its slimline profile and was used across the common areas, apartment kitchens and butler’s pantry and grand entrance staircase. For the swimming pool area Linea-Aqua 9.6W Strip (IP65) was used within the extrusion profile to ensure protection from total dust ingress and low-pressure water jets. Surface mounted black Mondolux 3-Circuit power track was used as a bold feature between wooden panelling in the lobby and in the residential corridors, and in the Level 5 common area.
As part of providing the value-managed lighting package the Specialist Projects team completed NATA testing to confirm quoted specifications post aesthetic approval to ensure all fittings met all performance and compliance requirements.
Fittings were predominantly supplied with CRI80 and a colour temperature of 3000K.
The fitting schedule included colour-matching to Monument Grey across several of the Aglo Projects products, which involved extensive QC to ensure a consistent colour and finish.
The project spanned a 24-month duration from original samples to the project handover.
Custom Luminaires at The Ritz Carlton, Perth
Aglo’s Custom Design Team were delighted to collaborate with FEC and FPOV to manufacture multiple custom light fittings for the recently opened Ritz-Carlton, Perth. Set along the Elizabeth Quay riverfront in Perth’s Central Business District, the 18-story, 205-room hotel was designed by architects Cottee Parker and features a pink mirrored glass-lined exterior that reflects the Swan River sunlight, and evokes the Argyle pink diamond that’s found in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. The hotel pays homage to the location, drawing on the natural landscape with nods to its culture and geography.
Our Custom Design team demonstrated its added value by working to engineer the concepts presented by FPOV to a truncated schedule. Over 200 custom luminaires were engineered, manufactured and delivered as part of the project across multiple areas of the hotel including the lobby, pre-function spaces, VIP areas, Ritz-Carlton Spa, ballroom, guest rooms, suites, Hearth Restaurant and Song Bird Bar and Lounge. Materials used to create the custom manufactured fittings included electro plated stainless steel, crackle glass, acrylic, crystal, textured glass and brushed finish metals. A variety of custom manufacturing processes were utilised, including sheet metal bending, electro plating, powder coating, laser cutting , welding, polishing, grinding and glass blowing to produce the luminaire.
The custom luminaires were inspired by Western Australian landscapes including:
- the sparkling chandelier above the lobby, which has 286 bubbled glass tube pendants at a 11m ceiling height recalling the cascading Karijini gorge in the northern Pilbara region
- the elegant pendants at Hearth working in with the restaurant’s décor including handmade ceramic tableware, Kimberley stones and native florals
The project ran across an 18-month duration and followed the custom design process including preliminary design, detailed design, shop drawings, sample approval, production, QC, shipment and installation.
Aglo Systems was pleased to be involved with the lighting solutions and supply for the brand-new The Kitchen Collective showroom situated in Melbourne’s south east, Mentone, Victoria. We worked alongside retail and commercial design agency, Greater Group to supply commercial lighting for this stunningly designed, modern, kitchen and bathroom concept store.
Our Lighting Design team provided a lighting design, indicating lighting types, positions and mounting heights to illuminate the approx. 1000 sq metre showroom. In order to meet the client requirements, we provided a lighting solution that was flexible and provided targeted illumination across all displays. The Mondolux Catania Maxi high-performance commercial spotlight on black 3-Circuit Powertrack were suspended from a 7m ceiling to distinctly define the stylish kitchen showcases. Lengths of Mondolux Linear LED Stealth-AS XL extrusion were also aligned along the exposed ceilings to define the showcase displays. For the displays, the fittings provided on average 1000 lux. All fittings provided have a warm white colour temperature of 3000K and high CRI 90 for excellent colour rendering of the display spaces. The end result is a beautifully curated and sophisticated showroom.
Melbourne Qantas Domestic Business Lounge and Qantas Club Refurbishment with Custom Luminaires
Aglo Systems was pleased to work alongside Woods Bagot, Shape Projects and Apec Electrical to deliver the lighting design concept refinement, engineering, shop drawings, production and supply of three styles of custom lighting for the Melbourne Qantas Domestic Business Lounge and Qantas Club refurbishment. The fit-out design was inspired by one of Victoria’s greatest attractions; the Great Ocean Road and incorporated natural timber and earthy tones from greys to turquoise and featured modern finishes.
The Custom team at Aglo Systems engineered and manufactured three types of copper luminaires as part of the refurbishment. The first architectural feature for this project is the joinery light, which is located in the Business Lounge banquette seating area and incorporates a brushed metal shade, LED tape and acrylic diffuser on a stem. Eight of these custom features were created.
The second architectural light feature placed along the corridor of the lounge is a two-way wall light, which incorporates one up-light shade that matches the banquet seating version and one frosted glass sphere shade. A total of twenty of these were produced for the refurbishment and involved metal tube bending, welding and electro plating to complete the manufacturing process.
The third luminaire type for this project is a wall-mounted variation of the spun metal shade on a 1.2m arm featuring trendy vintage fridge lamps. Six of these bespoke luminaires were manufactured in total.
For their work in this 12 month-long project, SHAPE won the Master Builders Award – Excellence in Fitout 2019

Aglo Systems Specialist Projects team worked with Acton Electrical and WSP to provide a value-managed hospitality lighting package to meet the requirements of the specified fittings. L’Occitane Retail Lighting Design and Supply with feature round pendants
Beginning in the markets of Provence and founded in 1976, L’Occitane is an international retailer of unique skincare and fragrance products. Aglo Systems worked with interior designer 2M Creative and Shopfitter Yarra Valley for the retail lighting design, specification and supply for L’Occitane’s new store in Eastland, Victoria. At the time of writing, Aglo has supplied retail lighting design and solution to 6 L’Occitane stores.
Our lighting designers worked closely with the client to meet the detailed display design and ambience needed for each part of the store. Part of the requirements was to create enough contrast and the right lux levels between the wallbays, entrance and main retail area:
The Mondolux Stirling 90 downlights and Mondolux Messina Midi spotlights with suspended track were used above the wall bays and Mondolux Stealth 1707 Linear LED were used along the shelving and joinery to highlight the products. For the continuous, general lighting in the store, the Mondolux Queens 19W Downlight were supplied, providing even illumination. In the entrance, the Mondolux Polar 43W Downlight was used along with the Mondolux Impact 10078 to create a compelling window display. As a feature to the store, four round pendants were positioned in the centre, creating a premium look and feel. The downlight layout was carefully created, to ensure nothing would clash with the feature round pendants.
Manchester Unity Dental Suite commissions period style Custom Pendants with Casambi wireless dimming
The Aglo Custom Manufacturing team worked with 2B Designed and Smile Solutions to engineer and manufacture bespoke luminaires in the Manchester Unity Building in Melbourne, Victoria. Smile Solutions, Melbourne’s home of dentistry, is Australia’s largest private dental practice. Occupying five levels of the Manchester Unity Building, all which are of great significance within the art deco moment and Australia’s national architectural heritage, Smile Solutions was passionate and dedicated to preserving period sympathetic fittings across the building. Since relocating to the Manchester Unity Building in 2003, Smile Solutions has expended considerable resources on restoration to maintain Melbourne’s best-loved art deco edifice.
With this in mind, the dome luminaires in the lift lobbies were conceptualised by 2B Designed to reflect the period and style of the building and drew inspiration from the original stained glass ceiling in the elevator car. The dental suite hexagonal fittings were also designed to be sympathetic to the building’s heritage and provide suitable illumination to meet the dental suites requirements. Both features utilised a variety of manufacturing techniques and were manufactured from stainless steel, custom cut glass and formed acrylic diffusers materials Aglo produced to suit. In total, 16 hexagonal dental suite custom pendants and 8 lift lobby dome lights were produced.
As the cost for rewiring the building for dimming control would have been exorbitant, Aglo presented a solution for wireless dimming. Latest technology Casambi wireless control modules were integrated with the LED driver within the custom features. Dimming therefore, is controlled for all pendants via the client’s smart device using the Casambi app and allows for a host of fully controllable functions such as automated timer scheduling.
The project was completed across a 6-month period from initial design concepts shared from 2B Designed, to engineering detailed designs, shop drawings, finished samples for approval and ultimately overseeing the installation of the final features.

Aglo Systems supplied luxurious and modern light fittings for the immersive display suite replica apartment for Epsilon at The Star Residences.
Epsilon at The Star Residences offers an enviable luxury lifestyle integrated with award-winning restaurants bars, cafes, private resort-style recreation, Pacific Fair Shopping Centre (via proposed footbridge), The Star Casino and The Gold Coast Exhibition and Convention Centre (via existing footbridge). The display suite provides buyers with the opportunity to immerse themselves within the apartment luxury and design situated in The Star Gold Coast. Aglo Systems worked with both Zero 9 Constructions and Aizer Group to deliver this project.
The Star and Aizer Group approached us to execute this project due to our track record, high quality light fittings and comprehensive product range. Consequently, our team was able to provide lighting design solutions early on in the project whilst Aizer Group were working with Zero 9 Constructions on the building layout.
We assisted with general lighting design ideas including the location of lights and how certain sections of the display suite were to be highlighted with track spotlights. Due to the continual curved surfaces of the walls and niches and the angle of indirect illumination required, conventional LED strip could not be used. The lighting design solution incorporated Mondolux’s Neonflex Linea Side Bendable Surface Mounted LED strip to beautifully illuminate the perimeter of the display.
Aglo also supplied Catania Mini Track Spotlights and Stirling Downlights from Mondolux’s multi-residential and commercial light fitting range. These were installed throughout the display residential apartment, reception, and common areas.
