Tegan Gardner studied industrial design at Monash University, Caulfield and graduated with honours. Tegan draws on a bit of everything for her design inspiration – seeing an element, shape or material that catches her eye to develop an idea from there. When designing, Tegan will focus in on one element of the piece. Her works concentrate on choosing a design that can be adapted with multiple uses in a family collection as well as the ability to expand on different material colours and technical options. When designing, Tegan aims to take a minimalist approach, only using 2-3 materials elements per feature. Her favourite material to work with is glass, due to its versatility and delicacy. She likes how glass can be tinted different colours, textures or opacities and by changing any one thing there is a change in the way the light bounces and refracts from the glass.
Her custom work which has been a collaborative effort between lighting designers and architects can be seen in Casinos throughout Australia; Crown Sydney Barangaroo, SkyCity Adelaide, The Canterbury Leagues Club, Sydney, Victorian Racing Club, Flemington and other hotels and restaurants. Her favourite piece is an array of lanterns which were manufactured for Crown Sydney, Barangaroo.
